Community Challenge
Join the Community Challenge!
Every year, as part of the supply drive, we organize a friendly competition amongst local companies and community groups. We call it the Community Challenge. Community and business groups raise funds for school supplies and fill backpacks on behalf of their groups.
What is it? Crayons to Calculators’ annual school supply drive and competition, benefiting local students. Participants include area businesses and community organizations.
When is it? June 1-July 31, 2013. Register by June 1, 2013.
Who are we? A school supply drive created to ensure local students head back to school with the supplies they need to succeed.
Why we do it: There are thousands of students in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts who qualify for free and reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty. The cost of basic school supplies ($60-$70 per student) presents a financial burden for many of these kids’ families. Crayons to Calculators aims to cut that cost and move one step closer to eliminating the achievement gap.
How can you get involved?
- Ask employees or members to donate backpacks full of school supplies.
- Make a corporate or organizational donation.
- Match employees’ monetary contributions.
- Organize a team of volunteers to do a shift on the Crayons to Calculators assembly line July 15-31.
Are there any incentives? You bet. We present awards and recognize participants at a reception in the fall to the companies and organizations who gave the most.
How do you win? By earning points. Get 60 points for every full backpack donated; one point for every dollar donated; and 10 points for every two hour shift on the assembly line.
Just Do It! Every little bit makes a difference. We hope you will take this opportunity to help local students, build corporate and community camaraderie, and have fun!
