Crayons to Calculators

School supplies for students in need

Trash Bash

Thank you Western for another wonderful evening at Trash Bash

Check out all the photos from the event here

Trash Bash is a fund raising event to benefit Crayons to Calculators.  This year, Western Disposal, its employees, vendors, customers and generous others raised over $120,000 in support of Crayons to Calculators.  As a result of Trash Bash, thousands of children will receive backpacks full of schools supplies, bringing us that much closer to reaching our goal of providing over 9,000 backpacks to children in need throughout the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts.

Congratulations Western Disposal!

The Education Foundation of the St. Vrain Valley (EFSVV) awarded Western Disposal Services with the 2012 Bravo Award for their exceptional contributions to the Crayons to Calculators program benefiting thousands of St. Vrain Valley School District students.  EFSVV president Ben Bigelow said, “Since 2008, Western Disposal has been a sponsor of the Crayons to Calculators school supply program.  Their incredible 125 employees have committed over $400,000 to help provide backpacks full of school supplies to students in need in both the St. Vrain and Boulder Valley school districts. Over the years they have raised funds through their Trash Bash gala, Shred-It Days, chili cook-offs, burrito sales, a staff boxing match, and employee payroll deductions. In 2011, their efforts resulted in nearly 8,000 backpacks full of school supplies being available to students.”  Western Disposal employees Dan Powers and Deb Dabkowski were on hand to receive the award on behalf of Western Disposal Services.

EFSVV Executive Director Kathy Hall commented, “Not only have these industry leaders made an enormous investment in the District; their commitment will have a long lasting impact on our community as a whole. The Bravo Award is a way to recognize what we all know – that it takes a village to educate and prepare our students for future success. None of us can do it alone.”

The Bravo Award was established in 2011 by EFSVV to formally recognize the exceptional contributions of the school district’s outstanding business partners. The Bravo Award plaque reads, “in recognition of exemplary leadership, outstanding collaboration and innovative contributions to the St. Vrain Valley School District. Your commitment to our students and teachers truly makes a difference in bringing the highest level of academic achievement to within the reach of all our students.”

Volunteers Make It Happen!

Volunteers Make It Happen!

Without the countless volunteer hours provided by hundreds of generous community members at the end of each summer, we would not be able to fill the thousands of backpacks with precious school supplies for students in need.

Whether as individuals, families, businesses, or groups, our volunteers come together at our warehouse to fill backpacks.

The annual Trash Bash is a fund raising event to benefit Crayons to Calculators!  Western Disposal strongly supports our mission to provide backpacks and school supplies for children in need throughout the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts.  An estimated 15,000 – 20,000 students are unable to start their school year with basic school supplies; With Western Disposal’s help, we can help thousands of those students each year.

In 2010, Western Disposal, its employees, vendors, customers, and generous others raised $100,000 for Crayons to Calculators.  This year Western Disposal has set their sights on a goal of $125,000!

Over 7,200 backpacks filled with basic school supplies were distributed to students throughout the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts just before the start of the current academic school year.

Thank You Western Disposal!

Western Disposal has managed to outdo themselves again!  Thanks to the generosity of Western’s employees and suppliers, Gary Horton and Deb Dabkowski proudly presented a generous check for $100,000.00 to Crayons to Calculators at a staff appreciation lunch held at Western Disposal on June 15, 2010.

Francie Anhut and Catherine Bedell accepted their generous donation on behalf of the thousands of Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School District students that will have the much needed school supplies that they would not have afforded without the help of Crayons to Calculators!
